Xcel Energy and UW-Eau Claire honored for vital Wisconsin partnership

EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - Xcel Energy and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire have been honored with the Regents Business Partnership Award by the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents on October 28. This award, presented at Xcel Energy’s regional headquarters, acknowledges the impactful collaboration that has significantly benefited western Wisconsin.
Regent Ed Manydeeds praised the partnership for its contributions to the community. “I want to congratulate Xcel Energy and UW-Eau Claire, which have worked together to benefit students and our communities across western Wisconsin,” Manydeeds said.
Karl Hoesly, president of Xcel Energy-Wisconsin and Michigan, expressed gratitude for the recognition. “We are truly thankful to receive the Regents Business Partnership Award and value our longstanding collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire,” Hoesly said.
The partnership has led to initiatives like The Sonnentag, a $122 million recreational facility that is energy-neutral and powered by Xcel’s solar array. Additionally, Xcel has provided internships and career opportunities for UW-Eau Claire students, supporting career fairs and STEM events.
UW-Eau Claire Interim Chancellor Michael Carney emphasized the importance of the collaboration. “The leadership team at Xcel has worked with UW-Eau Claire to provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff to make a positive difference in the community,” Carney said.
President Jay Rothman highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership. “UW-Eau Claire is fortunate to have an employer like Xcel as such a vital partner,” Rothman said. This collaboration continues to drive forward both UW-Eau Claire and Wisconsin.
